Lewis and Clark National Historical Park (Fort Clatsop)

Oregon

TypeHistory
CategoryHistoric Markers

A hand-built replica of the 50-foot-square log fort where the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery spent a miserable, rain-soaked winter (Dec 1805-Mar 1806) -- the 2006 rebuild, made by 700 volunteers after the prior replica burned down, sits on the same riverbank where the original expedition wintered.

A free/low-cost NPS unit 5 miles south of Astoria, pairing naturally with the Astoria Column and Maritime Museum for a single dense history-stop cluster at the north end of the Oregon coast corridor.
