This 5-acre island housed the 400 workers who built the original Seven Mile Bridge for Henry Flagler between 1908 and 1912 at $1.50 a day -- the same 1935 Labor Day hurricane that destroyed the railroad also killed roughly 250 WWI-veteran work-campers washed out to sea nearby.
