Roamward
Privacy Policy
Last updated September 14, 2026
Roamward is operated by Shop480, LLC. We collect only what we need to make the product work — verify the stops you actually reach, color your map, and personalize suggestions. We do not sell your data, and your raw location is never sold. Our website uses limited Google Analytics 4 (GA4) cookies and Vercel Web Analytics for acquisition, conversion, and site-performance measurement — not third-party advertising trackers. The mobile app contains no third-party advertising SDK.
What we collect
- Location. While the app is in use during an active trip or a nearby-gems request, Roamward uses your device location to detect state crossings, capitals, and stop arrivals so it can verify them. Roamward does not request Always or ambient background location permission.
- Account & identifiers. An anonymous account is created on first launch; if you choose “Save your map,” our authentication provider stores the Apple or Google identifier and profile information supplied by that provider, such as name, email, and profile image, so your map follows you across devices.
- Trips, progress & content. We store your saved trips, selected destinations and stops, map progress, points, badges, and game results. Saves, passes, preferences, and recommendation interactions help personalize suggestions and improve the product. If you contribute a shared journal or trip suggestion, we store the text and any photos you choose to upload.
- Searches & route lookups. Place searches and the starting points and destinations you enter are sent to our search and mapping providers. Geocoding results are cached to avoid repeating lookups. Destinations you save become part of your account’s trip history.
- Crash diagnostics. Sentry receives technical error and crash reports, including app version, device model, operating-system version, and stack traces, to help us diagnose failures. Screenshots, session replay, performance tracing, and automatic breadcrumbs are disabled. We filter JavaScript reports and configure Sentry to prevent IP-address storage and remove selected user-identification and geographic fields from new reports before storage. This filtering does not mean those fields can never reach the service.
- Website analytics. Google Analytics 4 and Vercel Web Analytics receive page views and low-cardinality actions such as starting a plan or joining the beta list. GA4 may use cookies and receive standard browser, device, referrer, and approximate-location information under Google's privacy terms. Roamward does not send your email, trip contents, or precise browser location in these events.
How we use it
To verify travel and award states, capitals, and badges; to plan and personalize routes and recommendations; to enable collaborative trips and shared journals you opt into; and to improve Roamward. Website analytics help us understand acquisition sources, conversion funnels, and site performance. We do not sell this data, and the mobile app runs no third-party ad SDKs.
Retention & minimization
Saved trips, check-in records, progress, preferences, and account information remain associated with your Roamward account until you remove them, reset your data, or delete your account. Check-in records can include the location used to verify a stop; raw location is never sold. Geocoding results use a shared cache with a 30-day refresh interval; this is not an automatic deletion deadline. Sentry stores technical error events for 30 days on our current Developer plan in its U.S. data region. Google and Vercel retain website analytics under the configured property settings and their own privacy terms.
Service providers
Supabase provides account, database, and file storage. Planning requests may send your selected starting point and destination to geocoding and routing services so they can return a route. Sentry provides crash diagnostics under its privacy policy. When you choose an external maps, lodging, or tour link, that provider handles the visit under its own terms and privacy policy. Roamward does not receive your payment-card details.
Sharing
Public profiles and shared trips are opt-in. A public profile shows aggregates only (your colored map, badges, and counts) — never your check-in locations, timing, or live trip status. On a shared trip, members see the shared plan and journal, never each other’s private location history.
Your controls
- Export. Download all of your data as JSON from your Profile.
- Delete. Reset your Roamward data while keeping your login, or permanently delete your account, sign-in identity, and associated Roamward data from your Profile.
- Public toggle. Your profile is private by default; you choose if and when to make it public.
- Website analytics. You can limit analytics cookies with your browser settings or a content blocker. You can also contact us with a privacy request.
Children
Roamward is intended for users 13 and older, and we ask you to confirm this before you begin.
