Kentucky’s waterfall catalog is densest in the south-central and eastern mountains — Cumberland Falls country, Big South Fork, Daniel Boone National Forest, and the highland preserves near Whitesburg. This itinerary uses only falls we already publish, ordered roughly west/central → east so you are not zig-zagging the state for Instagram.
Drive times below are honest corridor estimates between trailhead towns (not door-to-door GPS). Spring brings peak flow; full-moon nights at Cumberland add the moonbow for planners who care.

Day 1 — Cumberland Falls hub (Corbin / London)
Base near Corbin or London. Walk the short path to Cumberland Falls — the “Niagara of the South” and a rare moonbow site on clear full moons. Same day or next morning, the moderate Dog Slaughter Falls trail nearby keeps you in one forest block. Evening option: Vanhook Falls on the Sheltowee Trace toward London if legs allow (longer hike, smaller curtain).
Day 2 — Big South Fork tall water (Whitley City)
Drive south into Big South Fork country for Yahoo Falls, Kentucky’s tallest at 113 feet under a huge rock shelter. This is a moderate hike, not a roadside pullout — budget the trail and a slow return. Overnight can stay in the McCreary County area or push back toward Corbin.
Day 3 — Eastern highlands (Flat Lick → Bad Branch)
Swing northeast: Flat Lick Falls near Gray Hawk is a short walk to a wide swimming-hole fall. Continue toward Whitesburg for Bad Branch Falls in a pristine nature preserve — moderate mileage, worth the quieter eastern end of the trip. This day is the longest windshield stretch; do not force it after a full Yahoo day if the crew is fried.
Logistics without invented mileage
Corbin ↔ Whitley City is a short south-central hop; Corbin/London → Whitesburg is a real half-day of mountain roads. There is no single loop that hits every fall in two hours — treat this as a 2–3 day forest trip. Confirm trail and preserve hours seasonally; some eastern sites are quieter and less staffed midweek.
